Preimmunization anti-pneumococcal antibody levels are protective in a majority of patients with cystic fibrosis.
OBJECTIVE Although invasive pneumococcal disease is infrequent in cystic fibrosis (CF), it is recommended that all patients with CF receive pneumococcal immunization. As part of a comprehensive program to immunize our clinic population, we obtained preimmunization anti-pneumococcal antibody levels. We hypothesized that the percentage of CF patients without protective levels of anti-pneumococcal...
متن کامل[Anti-inflammatory therapy in cystic fibrosis].
Cystic fibrosis lung inflammation is early, sustained and severe and would justify an anti-inflammatory treatment. At present, the inhaled corticosteroid treatment did not give evidence of efficacy, contrary to the oral presentation, but at the cost of side effects. Azithromycin gives more encouraging results with a good tolerance. New molecules are in the process of validation.
متن کاملOutcome of Cystic Fibrosis in Patients with Bronchiectasis
Introduction: Bronchiectasis is a common problem in children especially under 5 years. Early diagnosis of disease and its causes could be useful in early treatment and preventing probable complications. This study aimed at evaluating the cystic fibrosis (CF) in patients with bronchiectasis. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 374 children with bronchiectasis were studied. The diagnosis was ma...
متن کاملP 204 Title: Anti-α, anti-β, and anti-γ-crystallin autoantibodies from patients with cataract
Purpose Anti-crystallin autoantibodies have been often demonstrated in patients with cataract but only few studies point out on autoantibodies directed against the different crystallin classes. Our aim was to determmr the prevalence of antI-a-, anti-p, or antI-7 crystalho autoantibodIes m sera from 54 patients with lugh level of anti-total lens extract antibodies in comparison to control group ...
متن کاملCirculating plasmablasts are elevated and produce pathogenic anti-endothelial cell autoantibodies in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is a devastating pulmonary vascular disease in which autoimmune and inflammatory phenomena are implicated. B cells and autoantibodies have been associated with IPAH and identified as potential therapeutic targets. However, the specific populations of B cells involved and their roles in disease pathogenesis are not clearly defined. We aimed to as...
